2020 Candidates


Sydney Terese Gantous is in 4th grade at Norfolk Academy. Performing makes her happy. She loves to sing and dance. She is a member of the Philippine Cultural Center School of Cultural and Performing Arts, the Young People’s Theater Program, takes tap and jazz class, singing lessons, piano lessons, and plays soccer. Her favorite activity "to do on a rainy day is to write because it lets my imagination flow!" She chose to do the Little Miss Philippines pageant to help fundraise for the PCC and because "my Lolo Manny Hipol taught me about my Filipino culture. Being in this pageant is a blessing because it makes me feel closer to him."

Gabrielle Guzman Manginsay is a 3rd grade Gifted program student of the Academy for Discovery at Lakewood. She is active in the PCC School of Cultural and Performing Arts and also attends religious education at St. Gregory the Great School. Her hobbies are singing, dancing, arts and crafts, making up songs, playing, and reading. She enjoys playing pretend restaurant and when she grows up wants to be a pastry chef.  Born a proud 28wk old preemie she says, "I believe nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it." She joined the Little Miss Philippines VA pageant to inspire little girls to be proud of who they are, to share their creativeness and talent, to learn about the Philippine culture, to be unique and to not care about the mean things other people say to them because each girl is special and unique.

Maya Kailani Ortiz is a 5th grader at College Park Elementary, where she is in the STEM program. At school she broadcasts the morning announcements and serves as a safety patrol. She volunteers for the Wounded Warriors Surf Camp, Life Rolls On, Surfer’s Healing, and Surfriders Foundation. A member of Girls On The Run, she loves to run and has completed many races, including more than twenty 5Ks, four 10Ks, two 10 mile, one half marathon, and one triathlon. She is currently training for her second Shamrock Half Marathon as well as for her second triathlon. Maya dances hula and performs at the Polynesian festival. She has been a member of SCAPA. She also enjoys participating in spartan races, surfing, hunting and fishing with her dad. She joined the Little Miss Philippines pageant to raise awareness of the Filipino community and culture and to learn cultural traditions to pass on to the future generation.

Josephine Frances Petrulis is in 5th grade at Salem Elementary School and also attends Old Donation School in Virginia Beach as a gifted art school student.  She is actively involved with the United Ilocano Association of Tidewater dance troupe, St. Nicholas Church choir, and the Virginia Beach Public Library Battle of the Books program. Additionally, she has been a junior Girl Scout, helped with blood drive marketing.  Her interests include cooking, art and crafts, party event planning, baking, creative writing and dancing. Her current career goal is to be an art teacher and a fashion designer.  She thought it would be a new, fun thing to join the Little Miss Philippines pageant and wants to be more involved with her Filipino culture.

Charlynn Mae Prichard is in 3rd grade at Saunders Elementary School. She enjoys playing soccer. Her hobbies include baking, and reading books. She especially likes spending time and playing with her grandfather’s dog, Tiko, who is her best friend! She joined the Little Miss Philippines VA pageant to show many Filipino-Americans that "I am one of them despite my white complexion, blonde hair and blue eyes." She is proud of her heritage and wants to experience our rich culture and enjoys being with other Filipino-American families.

Maria Alana Ubaldo Walker is in 6th grade at Grafton Middle School. She is actively involved in the drama club, performs with the Church Bell Choir and Youth Choir, serves as the Class Representative of the Student Council Association, and is on the soccer and swimming teams. She enjoys listening to music, skateboarding, playing soccer, swimming, art, playing video games, singing, and playing a few musical instruments. She is considering a career as a computer engineer because she loves technology and because "my dad is a computer genius and I want to be like him." She also aspires to be a professional soccer player like Alex Morgan because soccer is her first and favorite sport.

Gabriella Ragadio Yambao is a 3rd grader in the gifted program at Greenbrier Intermediate School. Gabby enjoys dancing ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and hip hop and also plays the piano. She is a member of the United Ilocano Association of Tidewater Folk Dance Troupe and also plays the bandurria for the Philippine Rondalla Ensemble of Virginia. She love bakings, playing and listening to music, singing, and being involved with church activities. She joined the Little Miss Philippines VA pageant to meet new friends and to have a good time. She is honored to be part of the pageant because she wants to proudly represent PREVA and share her talents with the Filipino community.
